kane breaks golden boot record

Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane has won the 2016-2017 season UK Premier League Golden Boot award for the second consecutive year. The 29 goals Kane scored in just 2,536 minutes of play broke Christiano Ronaldo's 2008 season 'Minutes Per Goal' record. We had thought Ronaldo's achievement of 88 MPG (Minutes Per Goal) to win the Golden Boot would never be beaten, Harry Kane has proved us wrong!

Kane's 29 Premiership goals came in 2,536 minutes of play, beating the runner up Romelo Lukaku who scored 25 goals in 3,267 minutes of Premier League playing time.

Below is the list of all the previous Premier League Golden Boot winners, (where two or more players have scored the same amount of goals), then the MPG decides the winner in our list).

MPG is the fairest way of judging whose boot is the most golden of them of all. Alan Shearer is the all-time top goal scorer in the Premier League with 260 goals. Shearer played 38,231 minutes of Premier League football in his career, giving him a MPG of 147. Comparing his total goal tally to Harry Kane who had only played 9,125 minutes of Premiership football up to the end of the 2016-2017 season wouldn't be fair! If Kane manages to play the same number of Premiership minutes as Shearer and keeps up his MPG rate then he could score 439 Premier League goals!

Only two players in the premier League have achieved three consecutive season Golden Boot successes, Harry Kane could join another exclusive club next season.

world class

A minutes per goal (MPG) of 87 is truly world-class, in fact as you can see by the table above the 100 minutes per goal barrier has only been broken six times in the Premier League era. Before Kane's 2017 Golden Boot win, only one player had achieved a sub-90 minutes per goal level.

Kane was forced to miss 8 games of the 2017 Premier League season due to injuries, it is quite likely that if he had had a clean run, then he would have broken the joint number of goals scored in a Premiership season record of 31 as well, this is currently held by Alan Shearer and Christian Ronaldo.

hat-trick hero

Harry Kane has now scored six hat-tricks in the Premier League, four in the recently finished 2016-2017 season, two of them coming in the final two games of the campaign. He is currently 2nd on Minutes Per Goal in our All Time Top Strikers list, his 78 Premiership goals have given him an MPG of 116, while Sergio Aguero heads the table with an MPG of 109 for his 122 goals. Will Harry Kane overtake Aguero next season?
